Mackinaw City and Fort Michilimackinac

Mackinaw City lies at the southern end of the bridge and is the gateway to Mackinac Island. It has many hotels, campgrounds, and two ferry companies that service the island.

Fort St. Philippe de Michilimackinac overlooked the straits that connected Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Built in 1715 to protect fur traders, it was seceded to the British Following the French and Indian War. The British considered it too vulnerable during the American Revolution and moved it to Mackinac Island.
