Getting to Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Image
The Columbia Icefields Parkway kept us awake at night but we did it.. We've never pulled a 14-16% grade straight up and Lyle aced it! It was a 20 mph climb, the steepest our truck has ever done. Our RV GPS would not allow this route so we had to turn it off Athabasca Glacier Glad we didn't stay there. Tunnel Mountain campground in the town of Banff. We made it!!!

Whistler’s Campground, Jasper more to come

Boondocking in the woods among mama elk giving birth to their calves and a grizzly mama with 2 cubs walked right across the road from our site. Lyle and I sat outside at 10:15 PM and it looked like it was about 7:00 PM (it stays light until midnight)! Female elk Big papa elk was getting frisky with the ladies. Quite fun to watch. More Mount Robson

Moose Lake within the Mt. Robson park. Visitors Center mascot Mount Robson is the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies @3,954 meters (12,972 feet). Crazy that we almost didn’t visit this area...

Valemount, BC

Image
Valemount is on the east side of the Mt. Robson Provincial Park. The campground fills up in the evenings and then empties in the mornings as everyone moves on to their next destination. We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed the quiet and the spectacular views. This was shot from inside the camper during a rainstorm. The camera changed the continuous stream coming from the gutter into separate drops. Pretty cool... Snow-topped mountains surround the campground. I thought he was cute and love the name. Lyle said it was pretty good, too.

Blue River, British Columbia

Image
We're headed to Jasper National Park. Blue River is a stop along the way for all the rental RVs. It's a tiny town with no real services other than tourism. It's also home to the Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing Resort. Very posh log "chalets", spa, and gourmet restaurant on Eleanor Lake. World-renowned heli-skiing. It would be fun to see this area in the wintertime. Raindrops on Eleanor Lake We didn't go on the river safari but did have lunch at their floating restaurant. So far we have seen 1 moose and one black bear with a cub. We wear our bells and carry our spray, just in case. Nice campsite. Somehow we managed to get the firewood to burn, in spite of the frequent rain showers.

Vancouver and Merritt, BC

We took our bikes into Stanley Park in NW Vancouver. Allium at the Stanley Park gardens Lyle at lunch in Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC. Just before I crashed my bike after being distracted by a baby squirrel on the trail. I'm doing fine. Just a few bruises, but we missed the Seawall trail that surrounds the park. Oh well... Many rental RV’s driven by Europeans traveling in Canada. At large? Pretty lake and campground here. Loved the sign. Thank goodness for our GPS that converts kilometers to miles per hour. Practicing to operate the bear spray Private spot in the woods.
